Our Community Outreach Programmes cover some of the most pressing issues related to diabetes through:
Public stand-alone talks by respected and well-qualified speakers in diabetes and associated conditions
Insightful self-care workshops
Booth participation at community events, where we engage the public through interactive diabetes games and quizzes to raise awareness about blood sugar control and promote healthy lifestyle habits
Not only are these programmes a valuable opportunity for you and your loved ones to gain greater insight and knowledge about diabetes directly from our experienced and dedicated nurses, but they also allow you and your loved ones to receive free health screenings.
In order to make it accessible to everyone in need, regardless of their financial situation, these Community Outreach and Health Screening programmes are usually FREE (or subsidized).
Singapore’s Workplace Movement to Reduce Sugar and Combat Diabetes
Sugar Smart Nation is Diabetes Singapore’s inaugural workplace initiative under our Community Outreach efforts. It empowers companies to take practical, visible steps to reduce sugar exposure at work and promote healthier everyday habits among employees.
We invite an inaugural cohort of 10 companies to commit to five simple annual actions that transform awareness into routine workplace practices. By creating visible and sustainable norms, participating organisations can lead by example and inspire others to follow.
Diabetes remains a growing health concern globally and locally.
According to the IDF Diabetes Atlas (2025), 589 million adults (1 in 9) worldwide are living with diabetes — a figure projected to rise to 853 million (1 in 8) by 2050. In 2024 alone, diabetes accounted for 3.4 million deaths and at least USD 1 trillion in health expenditures.
In Singapore, the National Population Health Survey (NPHS) 2024 reported an increase in diabetes prevalence from 8.5% to 9.1% over the past four years. Today, approximately 400,000 people in Singapore live with diabetes, contributing to 4,013 deaths and SGD 2.3 billion in healthcare costs annually.
Beyond statistics, diabetes significantly increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, cancer, and limb loss.
The challenge is clear: we must move from awareness to action.
Each participating company commits to five annual actions (January – December):
These actions are simple, structured, and achievable — designed to create meaningful impact without operational complexity.
Reducing sugar exposure in the workplace supports:
The initiative aligns with national priorities such as Healthier SG and the Prime Minister’s National Day Rally message to reduce excessive sugar and salt consumption. It also supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health & Well-Being).
Sugar Smart Nation translates these national ambitions into practical workplace action.
Participating companies receive:
Access to subject matter experts
Ready-to-use educational materials
Guidance on implementing the five actions
Social media amplification through Diabetes Singapore channels
Recognition as part of the inaugural Sugar Smart Nation cohort
We support both SMEs and MNCs in implementing sustainable health practices with credibility and ease.
Be part of Singapore’s growing workplace movement to reduce sugar and combat diabetes.
