Diet: Low calorie diets

Updated On Jan 13, 2022

What is a low calorie diet?

  • Structured eating plan that restricts daily caloric intake, commonly for weight loss
  • Consuming around 1,200-1,500 calories per day, which creates a calorie deficit
  • Ensure that you consume the right nutrients
  • Do a physical examination before starting a low calorie diet and determine your daily calorie need
  • It is important to eat nutrient-dense foods such as fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and low-fat dairy, whole grains, herbs and spices, refined carbohydrates, and high-fat foods
  • A low-calorie diet may help patients with diabetes control their blood sugar levels without medication, and even reach remission
